The Press Release for your viewing 😉

Art4Gulu: A Benefit 4 the Refugee Women & Children of the NYARA Project in Northern Uganda.
Artists from around the globe: Film makers, musicians, fashion designers, celebrity supporters, photographers, dancers, even circus arts performers have come together to celebrate art, life, love, and the spirit of hope in one night. All to help refugee women and children in Northern Uganda. It’s going to be a rad party at the beautiful Canvas Lounge.

I had someone in Uganda say to me, “It only takes a little to do a lot in Africa.” She was right. And you coming out to this party – one night out of this whole year – is a little way to do a lot for these refugees.

ABOUT CALEB’S HOPE: Caleb’s Hope is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for vulnerable women and children affected by war, poverty, and HIV/AIDS. CH helps provide access to improved healthcare, education, and generates innovative job-creation and village banking programs.

NYARA PROJECT:

NYARA Project involves vulnerable women and girls that have been affected by the 23-year long war with the rebel LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army) in Northern Uganda. Nyara means “my daughter” in the native Acholi language. They are ex-child soldiers and child mothers that have been repeatedly raped in rebel and refugee camps, HIV/AIDS widows, and heads of sibling families where parents have died due to war and AIDS. They are all refugees in their own country, they all have children, and they all need help urgently. NYARA Project gives these women training, a job, a sustainable income with fair wages, empowerment, a means to take care of their children, afford school fees, proper nutrition, and the opportunity to be contributing and respected members of their community. The project is simple: paper bead jewellery. The women are not only paid as proper employees by Caleb’s Hope to make jewellery, but also receive small-business, self-help and money management and savings training. Profit generated from the sales of beads goes directly back into the project and village bank. We also work with the girls and the children via an art therapy program. Art is a powerful medium – hence Art4Gulu (see attached Through the Eyes of Children) . For more information visit http://www.calebshope.org and http://www.youtube.com/calebshope

It’s very simple: NYARA | Wear the Beads | Save a Life | Join the Movement

If you’re living in the Vancouver area, and you believe in this cause, then please, buy a ticket. Help save a life.
